Beverley Panthers 'B' 1 v 9 Bridlington Rangers
Rangers Goal scorers:- J Butterfield (4) S Mellonby (3) J Chapman O.G
Rangers put pressure on Panthers from the whistle and playing some fast
flowing football opened the scoring when Chapman headed in at the near post.
A few minutes later one of the Panthers defenders fired the ball into his
own net following pressure from the Rangers forwards. Rangers had Panthers
pinned in their own half but it was Panthers against the run of play scored
an opportunist goal. This spurred on Rangers who continually laid siege
to the Panthers goal and created many scoring chances but were denied by
poor finishing and many excellent saves by the Panthers keeper. Just before
half time Rangers increased the lead when a corner was headed past the diving
keeper. After the interval Rangers came out determined to put the game beyond
Panthers grasp and they notched up four goals in ten minutes. The Rangers
defence of Heathcote, Wright, Hoyle, Ykhlef and Ingram denied Panthers any
opportunities to breach their goal area and Taylor in the Rangers goal was
called on to make only one save from a Panthers free kick. Watson, Keeping,
Wardle, Rennoldson and Everett in the Rangers midfield were the first to
every ball and were tireless throughout the game. The scoring was rounded
off with Mellonby completing his hat trick and Butterfield going one better
with four goals to his credit. The passing and movement off the ball was
a pleasure to watch and this was again a fine team performance.
