Middleton Puma's 1 v 5Bridlington Rangers
Rangers Goal scorers:-
S Wardle (2) J Butterfield A Rennoldson J Chapman
This was expected to be a tough game with the top two teams playing each
other and it was Rangers who made the early running but Middleton who went
ahead against the run of play. Rangers were frustrated by the number of
off sides given against them but eventually drew level after fifteen minutes.
The game continued at a fast pace and both sides had chances to go ahead
but it was Rangers who took the lead on the stroke of half time when Rennoldson
was the first to the ball at the near post. The second half saw Rangers
looking to increase the lead and this came five minutes into the half when
Mellonby put Butterfield through and he slotted the ball low into the corner
of the net. Middleton tried to hit back but the Rangers defence of Heathcote,
Hoyle, Wright and Ingram remained solid and gave very little away. Rangers
passing was swift and accurate and it was not long before they went further
ahead when Ykhlef whipped in a cross from the right and Chapman outpaced
the defender and chipped the ball neatly over the diving keeper. Middleton
were forced into playing long balls through to their forwards and a lucky
bounce found their centre forward one on one with Taylor in the Rangers
goal and he pulled off a brilliant save to maintain the three goal cushion.
Five minutes from time four one touch passes saw Keeping thread the ball
through to Wardle who coolly finished for his second of the game and round
off a fine victory.
