Northfield Dragons 3 Bridlington Rangers 6
Rangers Goal scorers:- J Butterfield (2) J Christlow (2) S Wardle A Rennoldson.
Rangers expected a tough game against third placed Northfield Dragons but it was Rangers who started the livelier and went ahead after two minutes. Rangers were then left fuming when the referee allowed play to continue when a Dragons striker was passed the ball when ten yards off-side and scored unchallenged. This spurred Dragons on and they went ahead after fifteen minutes and they could have gone further ahead minutes later but for a superb save by Taylor. Rangers then regained their composure and gradually worked their way back into the game and drew level five minutes before half time. Within a minute of the restart Rangers were awarded a free kick and a perfectly chipped ball saw Butterfield outwit the Dragons off-side trap and he neatly slotted in his second of the game. The next ten minutes saw Rangers playing some excellent passing football and should have scored several goals but for poor finishing and some excellent saves from the Dragons keeper. The Rangers defence of Heathcote, Wright, Bennett, Ykhlef and Ingram easily dealt with the Dragons attacking play and Chapman, Keeping and Watson won everything in midfield. Wardle then scored direct from a corner when the keeper could only parry the ball into the roof of the net and then two minutes later Christlow netted his second of the game with a diving header from six yards out. Rangers pushed forward looking to increase the score and squandered many chances before a slip at the back gave Dragons a goal against the run of play. Rangers rounded off the scoring three minutes from time when Rennoldson drove the ball across the area and into the far corner of the goal. A great second half performance from the whole team.
