Walkington Wanderers 2 Bridlington Rangers 7

Goal Scorers:- J Butterfield (3) S Wardle (3) T Keeping

For Rangers final league game of the season they could only field ten men on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year. Playing fourth placed Walkington Rangers expected a tough game but it was Rangers who made the early breaks and it was not surprising for them to take the lead on sixteen minutes and go further ahead four minutes later. Rangers defence of Ykhlef, Wright, Bennett and Heathcote dealt easily with the Walkington forwards with Taylor in goal being rarely troubled but was called on once to make a brilliant double save. Rangers themselves were denied further goals by some excellent saves by the Walkington keeper but he was unable to keep out an unstoppable shot five minutes before the interval. The second half saw Rangers attacking time and again with Mellonby causing all sorts of problems down the right wing and it was his cross which resulted in the fourth goal. A lapse of concentration then saw a great solo run by a Walkington forward result in a well taken goal. Rangers hit back almost immediately when Chapman who won everything in midfield put Butterfield through to complete his hat-trick. Within thirty seconds of the restart Keeping was put through and he slotted the ball low past the keeper. As the game went on both sides started to succumb to the heat and Walkington scored a further consolation goal before Wardle outpaced the Walkington defence to complete his hat-trick. This was an outstanding display playing with ten men and in sweltering conditions.

Well done to the whole team having maintained their 100 percent league record and gaining promotion as league champions.
