A Heathcote J Hoyle S Mellonby Rangers started the game well and scored
in the second minute and added a second five minutes later. Two goals in
the fifteenth minute the latter from Rennoldson his second of the game saw
Rangers move into a comfortable lead. The defence of Wright, Ykhlef and
Ingram remained firm and gave the East Riding forwards very few chances.
Three further goals in the first half gave Rangers a seven nil lead at the
interval. The second half again saw Rangers pushing forward and two goals
in two minutes were added the best when Chapman scored his second with a
great header from a corner. Some flowing football from Rangers saw Butterfield
net the next two goals to complete his hat trick before Wardle hit two goals
to bring his tally for the game to four. East Riding then had their best
chance of the game when their striker was allowed to run at goal unchallenged
but a great save from Taylor in the Rangers goal denied the visitors a consolation
goal. Mellonby then outpaced the East Riding defence to score and then a
corner was cleared only as far as Heathcote on the edge of the box and his
shot found a way through the crowded area into the corner of the net. Keeping
then completed his hat trick before Hoyle rounded off the scoring two minutes
from time.
