Hull Boys Sunday Football League Under 14's Second Round K.O. Cup
2nd November 2003
Bridlington Rangers 4 v 2 Orchard Park Boys
Rangers Goal Scorers:
J Butterfield (2) S Mellonby T Keeping.
Orchard Park took Rangers by surprise and scored with their first attack
within 40 seconds and Rangers replied immediately scoring within 15 seconds
of the restart. It was Orchard park who went into the lead four minutes
later but Rangers were again back on equal terms within minutes when Wardle
split the Orchard Park defence with a strong run and his pass found Mellonby
who turned and slotted the ball neatly past the keeper. Rangers increased
their work rate and played some attractive football which led to them taking
the lead on 18 minutes when Watson won the ball in midfield and his cross
field ball was met by Butterfield who rifled the ball home from 18 yards
to net his second of the game. Within a minute of the restart Rangers won
the ball back and Chapman's pass found Keeping in space and he coolly finished
leaving the keeper stranded. Rangers continued to pressure but the score
remained unchanged at half time. The second half saw Orchard Park trying
to get back into the game and both Hoyle and Wright had to make well timed
tackles at the heart of the Rangers defence and Taylor in goal was called
on to make a point blank save when one on one. Rangers maintained their
composure and began to dominate the game and were unlucky not to go further
ahead when Ykhlef put Rennoldson through down the right flank and his cross
was parried by the keeper and knocked into the empty net but the goal was
disallowed for an infringement in the area. Ingram played well at full back
and late in the game Heathcote put Christlow through and he outpaced the
Orchard Park defence only to see his shot rebound off the legs of the keeper.
This was a hard fought win for Rangers against a well-organised team.
Thanks to Mark Hoyle for refereeing.
