Bridlington Spartans 7 v 1
Rangers goal scorers:- J Butterfield (4) S Wardle (3)
The second meeting of the season between local rivals Rangers and Spartans saw the top two teams playing each other and Rangers looking to maintain their 100% league record. It was Rangers who made the early chances squandering several golden opportunities before finally breaking the deadlock on twelve minutes. Rangers continued to pressurise but it was Spartans who equalised on eighteen minutes with a well taken goal. Spartans then had their best spell of the game but found the Rangers defence of Heathcote, Bennett, Wright and Ykhlef hard to breach and it was Rangers who should have scored several goals but for poor finishing and some excellent saves from the Spartans keeper. Late in the half the pressure was rewarded and Rangers scored three goals in seven minutes to lead 4-1 at half time. The second half saw Rangers dominate the game with Chapman, Watson and Keeping outstanding in midfield and making openings for Christlow and Rennoldson who were unlucky not to score but for some excellent saves again from the Spartans keeper. Wardle scored twice to complete his hat trick before Butterfield scored his fourth of the game. Ingram, Everett and Walls linked up well and Taylor made a couple of superb saves late in the game to deny Spartans any further goals. This was a well disciplined display to maintain the 100% league record.
