Bridlington Rangers 4 v 0 Sutton Park Raiders A

Rangers Goal Scorers:- S Mellonby, S Wardle, A Rennoldson, T Keeping.

League leaders Rangers were up against second placed Sutton Park Raiders in what was expected to be a tough game. It was Rangers from the kick off who passed the ball around and a perfect through ball saw Mellonby round the keeper to give Rangers the lead within the first minute. Rangers continued to apply the pressure but were caught offside time and again or produced some excellent saves from the Sutton Park keeper. Chapman then won the ball in the centre of defence and made a strong surging run forward and played a perfectly weighted pass, which split the Sutton Park defence and enabled Wardle to cut in from the wing and hammer the ball into the far corner of the net. Five minutes later the ball was laid out to Heathcote who crossed from the by-line and Rennoldson first to react volleyed in from 8 yards out. Most of the Sutton Park attacks were down the left flank but Ingram at right back easily dealt with these. The second half continued similar to the first with Rangers playing some attractive attacking football but being contained by the Sutton Park central defenders who were having outstanding games. The pressure paid off when Everett and Watson linked up well down the right to put Ykhlef through and his cross was cleared only as far as Keeping who volleyed the ball from 25 yards into the top right hand corner of the net for the goal of the game. Taylor in the Rangers goal was only called on to make one save which was from a free kick just on the edge of the area. Christlow caused all sorts of problems for the Sutton Park defence and was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty late in the game. A late corner saw Wright out jump the Sutton Park defence only to see his header rebound off the crossbar for a goal kick. This was a good all round team performance.
