AFC TICKTON v BRIDLINGTON RANGERS
Graham Waters Plumbing Services Ltd Brid Rangers went to
Tickton today to try and get back to winning ways. A complete shake up of
the team was both forced and required to try and give Rangers the edge in
this a difficult tie. Tickton started the stronger and forced an early corner
when Stuart King in the Rangers net struggled under pressure to clear a
high ball, Tickton poked in the loose ball to take the lead on 3mins. This
then spurred Rangers on some great midfield play by Sean Tyers and Adam
Wright carved open some great openings for Rangers, but the shot in the
final third of the pitch would not go their way. As the half progressed
Rangers began to peg Tickton back and a break by Alan Leyland sent Rob Waters
through on 28mins to level the score. Ian Midgley and Andy Clay, both in
new roles played well at the back and complemented the central defensive
duo of Tom Parr and Peter Jones. Danny Gordon speculative left footed strike
from 20 yards was off target and that was how the rest of the half went,
a series of half chances but neither team could get a grip of the game.
The second half started with a great strike from the center spot by Tickton
which just sailed over the bar. Rangers and Tickton all had chances this
half and game was end to end. Waters, Leyland and a fine drive from Gordon
all brought good saves from the Tickton keeper and King in the Rangers net
also made some superb saves to keep the score at 1-1. With 10mins left two
Rangers corners led to a long high ball at the back post which Tyers netted
Rangers second. Rangers then took more control of the game and late sub
Luke Crozier almost scored with his first touch of the game. In the dying
minutes a break through the center of the Rangers defense saw Andy Clay
slide tackle and clear a Tickton shot just as it looked like a certain goal.
Brid held on to the end and came out winners in this a very close and keenly
fought game of junior football.
