Bridlington Rangers v Cottingham Rangers

Graham Waters Plumbing Services and Osborne Building Services sponsored Bridlington Rangers where this week entertaining last seasons runners up in the league. This has always been a difficult fixture and this season was no different. Brid had to make a series of last minute changes to the team as injury and illness left Rangers with a bare squad.

Rangers looked strong from the start and began to win the early challenges with Sean Tyers and Adam Wright strong in the middle of the park. The opening 20minutes of the game swung both ways Brid going close with a Waters strike and Cottingham breaking through but Stuart King stood firm in the Brid net. It was Cottingham who opened the scoring on 23mins but Brid only looked like leveling the score soon afterwards when a Waters chip was desperately cleared off the Cottingham line. Brid pressure and determination saw them force a series of corners and after Tom Parr went close with a far post effort, Rob Waters blasted a great inswinging corner to the center of the goal which beat everyone including the Cottingham keeper to level the scores. Brid then went close again but the ball wouldn't fall kindly for a determined Alan Leyland. Ben Towers started his first game for Brid today and settled in nicely to right back working well with Jack Tye to build some slick Brid attacks. As the clocked ticked on it looked like both teams would go in level but a free kick on 41mins by Cottingham was well placed over the well and netted their second. HT 2-1 to Cottingham.

In the second half Brid began to spread the play wide more bringing Ian Midgley and Jack Tye more into the game, this then provided Brid with some great chances to level the scores and 18minutes into the half a lovely near post corner form Jamie Osborne saw Ben Towers nip in and head home Brids equalizer from 3 yards. Center backs Tom Parr and Captain Andrew Clay worked hard today, reading the game well and stopping any meaning full attack by Cottingham. Brid and Cottingham played the game in the right spirit both teams determined but neither could find the net a third time.

Luke Crozier came on for Brid and almost with his first touch broke down the right and sent a lovely cross into the box but an outstretched Waters leg couldn't make contact. Brid went close again through Parr and Midgley but in the end a draw was a fair result.

FINAL SCORE:- BRIDLINGTON RANGERS 2 V 2 COTTINGHAM RANGERS

MOM:- Ben Towers for an outstanding starting Debut and the center back duo of Tom Parr and Andy Clay who today where outstanding.

COACHES COMMENTS:- This was a hard game and on a day when the full squad was put to the test, Brid pulled together and ground out a result. This wasn't the best performance this season but again the team showed great character to pull back level twice and where unlucky not to come away with al 3 points. Well played everyone.
