10 MAN RANGERS STAGE A 20 MIN 3 GOAL BLITZ TO WIN THE GAME

BRID RANGERS V TICKTON AFC.

Graham Waters Plumbing and Osborne Building services sponsored Brid Rangers went into this game not playing a game due to the Xmas break and a lull in the fixture list since 12th Dec 2004.

A rusty Rangers where a little slower to the ball than Tickton in the opening exchanges and it was Rangers who went behind to a good individual goal on 19mins, this was the wake up call Rangers needed who drew level when a speculative 40 yard drive saw Adam Wright level the score for Rangers on 23mins. Peter Jones and Tom Parr’s performance in the center of the rangers defence backed up the Rangers midfield of Wright and Andy Clay. Rangers found it still difficult to get into their stride and with some decisions going against them became frustrated and lost their shape.

It was Tickton who had cool heads and from a free kick on the edge of the box took the lead on 42mins. HT Brid Rangers 1 v 2 Tickton.

A better performance was needed in the second half and Rangers went out to try and take the game to Tickton, but another free kick was well placed by Tickton who further increased their lead on 55mins. A period of end to end football then began, Ian Midgley and Jack Tye started to gain possession more on the wings and Rob Waters and Danny Gordon began to look more likely to reduce the deficit, but Rangers momentum was then turned on its head with the dismissal of Wright.

So 10 man Rangers with 25mins on the clock and 3-1 down could have buckled but a steely determination came about the team, a three man defence and an attacking minded team began to play some lovely football, King in the Rangers net led the charge, good distribution led to Rangers second goal on 78mins when Clay blasted the ball home. Midgley and Osborne switched position and a nice move between them saw Midgley break down the left, take on the Tickton defence singled handed and draw Rangers level on 85mins. Hard work by Train, Jones and Parr kept Ticktons shooting to long distance and Rangers where becoming stronger as the game went on. Garth Young had joined the game on 60mins and slipped into the strikers roll well.

With the clock ticking away Towers joined the game and with his first touch had a good near post header which set up Jones to launch the ball into the box but a scramble saw the Tickton defense clear the shot. Ashley Allott joined the game late but contributed well to the teams midfield work. In the 90th min Rangers then pressured Tickton even more and it was that man Clay who netted Rangers winner.

FINAL SCORE:- BRID RANGERS 4 V 3 TICKTON

Man of the match:- Whole team for an outstanding team performance.

Managers Comments:- This was a difficult game after a 6 week layoff and it did take Rangers a while to get into their stride but Rangers showed what they were made of today, battling against all odds to gain the result which keeps them in touch with the league leaders.
