EAST RIDING COUNTY FA CUP ROUND 2 U18’S

Sunday 5th December 2004.

BRID RANGERS V TIGERS CO-OPERATIVE.

Graham Waters’s plumbing services and Osborne Building Services sponsored Brid Rangers where at home for this round of the Cup with a place in the Quarter Finals at stake.

From the kick off it was Tigers who came at Brid with a wave of attacking football but Brid where winning the balls at the back, Peter Jones and Tom Parr strong in there challenges along with Micheal Train and Andy Clay gave little away. Rangers Midfield of Adam Wright and Sean Tyers found the going tough but backed up well by Jack Tye and Ian Midgley Rangers got a foot hold in the match. Rob Waters broke clear but his final touch couldn't create an opening. Tigers then attacked again and this time it was Rangers keeper Stuart King whose fine goal keeping turned the ball away from goal with a good reaction save. Rangers then went on the attack, Tyers, Midgley Waters and Bint all then combined to set up Bint but the shot skimmed the top of the cross bar and out for a goal kick. The half saw both teams attack and defend but Rangers broke the deadlock on 43mins when a lovely through ball from Danny Bint sent Rob Waters through on goal, he then rounded the last defender and nudged the ball past the advancing goalkeeper, HT 1-0 to Brid.

With Brid giving a 110% in the first half a spirited Tigers team came out in the second and it took them 10mins to work their opening with a near post scramble some how crept in the Rangers net. Rangers tried to keep their shape but the Tigers team now had the bit between shier teeth and piled the pressure and inevitably netted the second on 18mins. Rangers had there chance to level but a fine save from the Tigers keeper kept them in front. A tiring Rangers team then had two forced changes Tyers and Midgley off through fatigue and they where replaced by Alan Leyland and Danny Gordon who's efforts to get Rangers back into the game where second to none. Micheal Trains great tackling and work rate today showed how far on as a player he had come playing against the best U16's from last season and coming out on top in most of the battles. Tigers netted two more goals before the end but mainly due to Rangers efforts up left them venerable to attack on the break.

Jack Tyes wing play, tackling and willingness to get about the Tigers team today has won him the Man Of The Match award.

Managers Comments:- The whole Rangers team played this match in great Rangers tradition and never gave the game up. In the first 45mins Rangers where the top team taking a lead in at half time, but to be fair the Tigers Co Operative squad they came out in the second half and showed why they where Myton League Champions last year. We did our selves proud and gave it our all and that is all I can ask as a Manager. That's now the end of the Cup run and we are back to League Business next week with a game away to Thorpe Park.
