HULL BOYS SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

U18’s league playoff

Cottingham Ranger’s v Brid Rangers

This was the final game of the season for both teams, and for Brid Rangers it was a game they really shouldn’t have been playing in, as Cottingham seemed to have the League title wrapped up just after Christmas, but an amazing comeback by Brid levelled the points at the top of the league last week and now had the opportunity to take the crown.

It was Cottingham, who after last weeks disappointment came to this game the stronger team and within the first 3 minutes had taken a 2 goal lead. This stunned the Brid team but not to be deterred carried on and tried desperately to get them selves back into the game. Captain Midgley narrowly shooting wide from close range, Tyers and Bint both going close but the little bit of luck they needed eluded them today and it was Cottingham who went further ahead with minutes to go until half time.

HT Cottingham 3 – 0 Brid Rangers.

The second half saw Brid shuffle the pack and go for broke, going with three defenders and an all out attack pressurised Cottingham and a goal line scramble saw Brid pull a goal back on 59minutes this spurred Brid on and Midgley went close once more as did Parr and Towers but the Brid pressure was soaked up well by Cottingham and on the break netted their fourth of the day on 72mins. Brid still pressured Cottingham and through Jamie Osborne on the left had a hard defence that this half proved difficult to break down.

The game ended 4-1 to Cottingham but on the day they where the better team, but Brid Rangers can take heart that at Christmas it looked difficult to catch even second place in the League let alone draw level on points and take the title to a playoff would be immpossible.

Man of the match Jamie Osborne for his outstanding tackling and tracking back today

So Congratulations to Cottingham this season but a bigger well done goes from me to the whole Brid Rangers squad of mainly U16’s and U17’s players for gaining their third successive promotion in the Hull League. Next season could be our last but we will be playing the highest level of football any Brid Rangers team has achieved at this age level, so again well played and see you this coming Friday 13th May for our presentation night at BSCC for 7pm.
