Cottingham Rangers v Bridlington Rangers

12-10-2003

Graham Waters Plumbing Services and Scot's Butchers sponsored Brid Rangers traveled for the first time to play Cottingham Rangers a former Drypool team for this League encounter. Brid Rangers pressed from the off and a good ball through the middle saw Rob Waters open the Brid account 4mins when a strong strike could only be parried into the net by the goal keeper. Brid Ranger pressed for a second but strong defending and a 5 man midfield made things difficult for the Brid team. As the half went on Cottingham looked the better side and their pressure paid off with a goal in the 23rd minute. Micheal Harvey and Andrew Clay worked hard on the left but Cottingham and Brid Rangers canceled each other out for much of the rest of the first half. Brid where reduced to ten men for a short time towards the end of the half as Micheal Trains nose clashed with a Cottingham boot, he later recovered and rejoined the game with a blooded nose. Adam Wright and Tom Parr swapped positions at the start of the second half and Rangers looked a different team with the introduction of Jamie Osborne. Brid took the game by the scruff of the neck and began to win the battles in midfield, looking the stronger another player was introduced Garth Young came on and made things difficult for Cottingham. From a long corner a scramble in the box a cheeky back heal by Garth Young saw Brid Rangers take the lead on 57mins. Cottingham chased the game after this and Brid looked stronger and more confident as the match went on. Michael Parr made his league debut and Jamie Carter also was introduced to the game both applying themselves well. Peter Jones, Micheal Train, Tom Parr and Jamie Osborne all worked hard in the defence to keep the the Cottingham attacks to a minimum.

COACHES COMMENTS: This was a difficult match against a strong and well organized Cottingham Rangers team. A below parr first half by Brid Rangers was turned around and a strong second half performance saw the team become the stronger and get the win, well played to everyone in the team.
