Thorpe Park Celtic v Bridlington
Rangers
Graham Waters Plumbing Services and Scotts Butchers sponsored Bridlington Rangers travelled to Hull not knowing if the tie would be played with some heavy rain showers and gale force winds blowing. The sky brightened up and Rangers new that it was game on. The wind played a big part in this match gusting down the length of the pitch, Rangers elected to have the wind behind them in the first half. Great midfield play from Andy clay, Peter Jones and Ian Midgley put pressure on Thorpe Park from the start, great cross 's in from Micheal Harvey and Jack Tye kept most of the play in the Thorpe Park half. Rangers opened up the scoring on 10mins when a lovely ball from Jones unleashed Waters to drive the ball home. Rangers continued to press and as the ball was played through a crowd in the Thorpe Park box , it was laid off to the 18 yard line and Andy Clay kept his composure and slotted the ball low and hard into the Thorpe Park net. Rangers defence of Jamie Osborne, Michael Train and Tom Parr on occasion where threatened but dealt with pressure well. Rangers third came when Jones again played Waters in who drove for goal and then cleverly pulled the ball across the goal for James Peacock to tap the ball home from 3 yards. Waters completed the scoring in this half notching his second with another good low strike. The second half saw Rangers change tack ticks and decide to defend the lead, due to the wind it was difficult to clear the lines but as the half went on Rangers could have increased the lead when three good chances where created but couldn't be put away. It was a solid Rangers team performance today and only in the last 10mins did Thorpe Park pull a goal back. Rangers never looked troubled and always looked in control, subs Garth Young, Micheal Parr and Matthew Strathern came on and settled into the game well working hard and kept Rangers momentum going. In the dying minutes of the game Thorpe Park pulled a second goal back after Rangers injured goal keeper Stuart King left the field and was replaced by Rob Waters. Waters made two great saves prior to the goal and was unlucky when the shot went in.
Final Score: Thorpe Park Celtic 2 v 4 Bridlington Rangers
Rangers MOM. Whole team for a sterling performance in some very blustery conditions.
Coaches Comments: This was an important game to win as the season is drawing to a close we are now back on top of the league, we have some difficult games to come but if we work as hard and as a team as we did today the results could go our way, well played everyone.
