Bridlington Rangers v Hessle Sporting Club
Graham Waters Plumbing Services and Scotts Butchers sponsored Bridlington Rangers started this their first league game of the season brightley. Good fast football and a series of penetrating long balls saw Rob Waters go close with his first few touches. Stuart King worked hard in goal and Peter Jones, Micheal Train, Ian Midgley and Tom Parr battled together in defence. Despite the early pressure Hessle scored from a lon distance free kick that was high and into the which crept under the Rangers bar. Not to be put off by this Rob Waters pace took the ball to the bye line a great cross and knock down by Jack Tye saw Jamie Carter score on his Rangers debut. Further Rangers pressure saw Micheal Harvey go close and Rob Waters hit the post. Hessle took the lead again when a deflected shot decieved everyone and rolled over the line. Rangers re-grouped and a fine turn and shot 10 yards out saw Rob Waters level the scores again. A Rangers then clipped the cross bar, post and side netting before on the break Hessle took the lead again this time with a good strike form 12 yards. As the half drew to a close a switch in the forward line saw David O'Grady come on and help set up Rob Waters for his second of the day.The second half saw Rangers start to grind down Hessle and a superb finish from O'Grady saw Rangers take the lead for the first time in the game. Further good work from Jack Tye on the wing released Rob Waters to further increase the Rangers Lead mid-way through the half. Adam Wright Andrew Clays midfield play was always solid and and creative. Subs Wayne Mclintock and James Peacock join the game late on, Mclintock making some strong challenges and Peacock going close to scoring on three occasions. Hessle pulled a goal back late on but Rangers stood firm and worked hard as a team to ensure the win.

Coaches Comments: This was a big test for the team playing an in form Hessle side who always give us a good game, new players and playing posistions saw the Rangers team from last year change and evolve. The whole team looked sharp and ready for the match, well played to everyone we can now take our mind off the League and look forward to the League Cup next week at home to North Cave.
