Bridlington Rangers v Thorpe Park Celtic
Graham Waters Plumbing Services and Scotts Butchers sponsored Bridlington Rangers took on second placed Thorpe Park in one of the toughest games of the season. Rangers went into the game with key players missing but put on a good team performance. The first half saw both teams work hard, Micheal Harvey and David O'Grady both going close but it was Thorpe Park who netted first mid way through the half as the ball was well placed beyond the Rangers stand in goal keeper and bounced in off the post. The score remained 1-0 until half time. Rangers then came flying out of the blocks and took the game to Thorpe Park and Waters blasted Rangers level within the opening five minutes. Rangers pressured Thorpe Park but they stood firm and Rangers couldn't net a second. Thorpe Park then scored to re take the league and 20mins later scored again to go 3 -1 up. Rangers never gave this tie up and from a Waters free kick Jack Tye brought a goal back for Rangers, but within 2mins a scrappy corner saw Thorpe Park bundle the ball into the Rangers net. With only minutes remaining sub Tom Pickering broke free and pulled a goal back again for Rangers but alas the clock ran out and Thorpe Park took the points. Rangers are now 2 points ahead of Thorpe Park in the league and have played the same amount of games.
Final Score: Bridlington Rangers 3 v 4 Thorpe Park Celtic
Rangers MOM. Ian Midgley for his hard tackling and good work down the left in all positions!!
Coaches Comments: A very strong Thorpe Park
team caused Rangers some problems today but a full strength Rangers team
will make the return leg an exciting one later on in the season. For the
majority of the game there was not very much between the teams but Thorpe
Park just edged it. Well done to everyone who played in various positions
today it almost worked, lets take our Christmas break, get some players
back from injury and come out fighting in the New Year.
Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year to everyone involved with the
team.
Cheers Steve
